If you’re in the business of eldercare than you should find a way to read through the press conference transcript from yesterday MOH press conference. Since October is a senior citizen month, the conference focused on the MOHs efforts to address the problems of its aging population. Though I’m only seeing the release this morning, the MOH seems to have released fresh demographic statistics and policy goal details.

Just as a quick example, within the first paragraph we learn that the number of elderly 60 years old or older in China is now 178 million, which represents a whopping 13.26 percent of the population, while the number of 65 years old or older Chinese is 119 million, which is 8.9% of the total population. According to the MOH this makes China the only country in the world with more than 100 million elderly people (thought it’s hard to tell whether they define that as 65+ or 60+).

I’ll be translating parts of this piece over the next week or so. You can wait for that or you can go straight to the source, here.
