Not surprised to see some elephant outpatient care! Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia in my opinion that has solidly committed to universal healthcare coverage. Financing, provision, the works. Many countries (including and especially higher-income ones) could learn from their example.

    Nicola,

I don’t know enough about Thailand’s healthcare system to comment one way or another about the adequacy of the coverage but it’s always nice to hear people being enthusiastic about a healthcare system. You’d think that this sort of sentiment would be much more common in 2011 than it is.

I do know, however, that Thailand has some of the best hospitals in the world. Period. That is quite an achievement.

Do you have personal experience with the healthcare system in Thailand? We’d love to hear any stories you have.
